The Museum of Cham Art in Danang houses the most extensive collection of Cham sculpture in the world. The Ecole Francaise d'Extreme-Orient established the collection in the late nineteenth century, with artifacts gathered in central Vietnam. In 1915 the museum was built, designed by two French architects, Delaval and Auclair, and in 1935 the museum was expanded. The museum currently has over 300 sandstone and terracotta sculptures dating from the seventh to the fifteenth centuries, which consist primarily of altars, statues, and decorative works taken from Hindu and Buddhist Cham religious sites.
