The twelve identical Suor Prat Towers are arranged in a row, six on either side of the road leading to the Gate of Victory, lining the east side of the Royal Square of Angkor Thom. It was built in Jayavarman VII's (1181-c.1220) reign, but their function is still unclear, although various theories have been proposed. It is likely that they served as shrines, although not necessarily housing Hindu deities.
